2nd Qtr. 2000

The web site for the New Jersey Center for Software Engineering has been established and will be used as a focus point for industrial and academic communication. Please visit the site at www.njcse.org

An international conference was held at Stevens Institute of Technology in April 2000. The conference, "Mathematical Foundations of Programming Semantics", (MFPS 2000), was supported by the NJCST, through NJCSE, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).  Guest speakers included two recent Turing Award winners, Dr. Robin Milner, from the University of Cambridge, and Dr. Dana Scott, from Carnegie Mellon University. Talks and presentations focused on software verification and reliable software design, key elements of software engineering.

Corporate outreach efforts by NJCSE researchers this quarter have included attendance and participation in the NJ Technology Showcase, held on June 7 and sponsored by the New Jersey Technology Council, and the NJ Software Forum, held on June 16. In addition to the NJCSE web site, a brochure has been developed and is being distributed to New Jersey industries.

Industrial interaction has occurred with AT&T Research (Florham Park, NJ), Lucent Technologies (Holmdel, NJ), Computer Associates (Princeton and Ft. Lee, NJ) and Cotelligent (Branchburg, NJ), among others. These efforts are two-fold: to inform NJ firms of the NJCSE organization, and to determine their priorities when working with NJCSE.
